Women, Seated by Zhang Yueran
This book was really interesting to me because I had no idea where it was going. There were twists and turns that were low-stakes enough to keep me guessing about what the major reveal would be. Everything started happening right away, without wasting any time diving into the story, which I appreciated.
I really liked the main character, Yu Ling. At first, you think she isn’t a very good person, but over the course of the book, you come to see that she’s just misunderstood—and her character arc moves in a positive direction.
It was also interesting to see her relationship with the child she was nannying improve throughout the story. I felt the child had a positive arc as well.
The thriller aspect of this book was pretty low-stakes, which could be a good or bad thing depending on the reader. Personally, I liked it because I was able to enjoy the story more without feeling stressed. I would give this book 4.25 stars.
If you liked the nourishing relationships in Nothing to See Here, then you’ll likely enjoy this book as well.
Thanks to the publisher for the ARC.
